Dear colleagues,
A brief note to thank you, the members of the Library Association of Ireland (LAI), for your wonderful support during the IFLA World Library and Information Congress (WLIC) 2022.
The WLIC was a huge success with around 2,000 delegates from almost 100 countries. More than 150 sessions, meetings and workshops took place.
There was also an extensive exhibition, a day of visits to 30 libraries throughout the island of Ireland and a programme of early morning well-being activities and social events.
From the members who were deeply involved in the National Committee to the members who welcomed international colleagues into your libraries all over the country this demonstration of the passion and collegiality of the Irish library community was heartening. Delegates really did receive a céad míle fáilte!
None of this would have been possible without your support and on my own behalf, and on behalf of the National Committee, I want to say go raibh míle maith agaibh.
I hope that you will get a break over the summer, if you have not already done so, and that you will be ready for an exciting autumn of LAI activities that will include the LAI Irish Author of the Year award at the An Post Book Awards, conferences, seminars and Library Ireland Week 2022 .
Le gach dea-ghuí,
Cathal McCauley
President
Library Association of Ireland
