This year Irish librarians will have an amazing opportunity to meet other librarians from all over the world, share their experience and
build a professional network. And all because of one event – IFLAcamp – organised by IFLA New Professionals Special Interest Group on July
23-24.
Founded in 2004, NPSIG is an open global network for library and information science new professionals and supporters. They facilitate
international networking opportunities for early career librarians and LIS students around the globe. Since 2010, prior to the IFLA annual
conference, new professionals organise “IFLAcamp”, a two-day event, with the aim to attract new professionals – by spirit not necessarily by
age – to an unconference where participants discuss hot topics in the library world. The participant-driven approach allows for active
involvement of all attendees and includes all kinds of topics of interest. The IFLAcamp has been quite popular and it has been attended
by several IFLA presidents and other high profile people (for sure this year as well!).
This year, IFLAcamp #8 will be organised in the vibrant public library and cultural space in the heart of Dún Laoghaire – the DLR LexIcon
Library. This place will allow us to have the “IFLA skillcamp” – a first market of ideas and useful skills in our work which can be
presented by everyone. During the second day new professionals invite librarians to go outside and visit Dublin together.
New Professionals SIG created a special website https://iflacamp.wordpress.com/ included an agenda and registration
link. They want to prepare the event in the best way so please remember to register until Monday, 13th June, 2022.
