2006 News

Activities in 2006 During 2006 the GLS organised a visit for members to the Dürer exhibition in the Chester Beatty Library, arranged a visit for clerical staff to the Office of Public Works Library and sent a delegation to Belfast for the launch of the Northern Ireland Civil Service eLibrary. In February 2006 a representative of the GLS attended a meeting of library and information professionals with officials from the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment to discuss the proposed Public Lending Right legislation and other concerns in the area of Copyright. For Library Ireland Week the GLS contributed a piece on the role of the government librarian as part of the circulated publicity material.

2005 News

GLS Motion Passed at the LAI AGM – 10th March 2005 “This AGM calls on the incoming Executive Board to investigate the need for publicly-funded bodies to develop a copyright policy, including ownership of copyright, public access to publicly-funded research and the issue of retention of copyright when licensing publication of research.”

2004 News

“That this AGM calls on the incoming Executive Board to write to the Government to emphasize the importance of maintaining government library services managed by professional librarians at appropriate professional grades.”
