Government Libraries Section (GLS)

The Government Libraries Section represents the interests of all staff working in Government Libraries. Its aims are to promote and develop the role of libraries in the Civil Service and to promote co-operation between Government Libraries. The Government Libraries Section can help members:

  • to meet other people working in Government Libraries with similar problems, concerns, and interests.
  • to develop and update skills and knowledge.
  • to keep in touch with relevant activities, meetings, training courses, and publications.

The Government Libraries Section welcomes contact from anyone involved or interested in Government Libraries. Membership of the GLS is open to all members of the Library Association of Ireland – for further information contact us at governmentlibrariessection@gmail.com.


GLS activities include:                   

  • meetings, training, visits to libraries, computer demonstrations and evaluations, social events.
  • production of publications including GLINT, a newsletter to keep members up to date with events affecting Government Libraries.
  • liaison with various groups concerned with library and information matters.
