Networking event:

The 1916 Rebellion Walking Tour on Thursday 08 October from 6:00 – 8:00pm.


The tour visited relevant sites of the 1916 Rebellion around Dublin 1 and 2.

Lorcan Collins, one of the authors of the book The Easter Rising, was our guide and we met at the front entrance to Trinity College at 6:00pm.

This was a free event and open to all A&SL members, but ticket numbers were limited and it *SOLD OUT*

‘Librarians & Online Privacy’

Talk by Alison Macrina of ‘The Library Freedom Project’

When: Thursday August 6th 6 pm – 8 pm

Where: Royal Irish Academy, Dawson Street, Dublin 2

A&SL were delighted to welcome Library Freedom Project director Alison Macrina to Dublin. The Library Freedom Project are a US partnership of Librarians, Technologists, Legal professionals and online privacy advocates. They provide training, resources and raise awareness of online privacy and security. Alison’s talk addressed the role of the information professional in teaching about privacy rights and outlined some of the tools to protect online privacy. Alison was joined by Dr Eoin O'Dell, TCD Law Lecturer, who discussed Irish and EU legislation on online privacy.

The 2015 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Academic & Special Libraries (A&SL) Section of the LAI took place on Wednesday 17th June 2015 at 6pm in the Royal Irish Academy, Dawson Street, Dublin 2. Our guest speaker on the night was Marian Keyes, Senior Executive Librarian at Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council. She spoke about the new Dlr LexIcon : Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Central Library and Cultural Centre. Refreshments were served after the meeting. ___________________________________



Library Camp 2015

The A&SL committee proudly supported another LibCamp, which took place on Saturday, 23rd May 2015 at St. Patrick's College Library in Drumcondra, Dublin 9.

This year's topic was "Marketing". We enjoyed some lively discussions, networked with our colleagues from near and far, and sampled some of the cakes on offer. Thanks to all who attended!
