Getting Started in Digital Preservation

The Digital Preservation Coalition, the Digital Repository of Ireland, the Health Sciences Library Group and the Academic and Special Libraries Section of the Library Association of Ireland were delighted to invite you to join us at a workshop which equipped collection managers, archivists, librarians and conservators with the skills necessary for ‘getting started in digital preservation’.

 

 

A&SL and HSLG CPD Survey

The committees of the Academic and Special Libraries Section and the Health Sciences Libraries Group invited you to take part in our joint CPD survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/R9P9PLH

This gave us valuable feedback and helped us plan future events.

One lucky winner could choose between a full delegate place at either the HSLG or A&SL conference or one of our training events.

The survey closed on 8th September.
 

Informal Networking Evening - visit to the Library at NUI Maynooth

The Committee of the A&SL Section were delighted to announce that the next event in the series of Informal Networking Evenings was a visit to the Library at NUI Maynooth.

A brief introduction to the Library was followed by a tour of the library building.
During the visit there was an opportunity to view art works on loan to NUI Maynooth from AIB. Artists such as Cecily Brennan, Louis le Brocquy, Basil Blackshaw, Rita Duffy, Martin Gale, Maria Simonds-Gooding and Robert Ballagh were featured.

The visit was followed by refreshments in a local venue

Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Academic & Special Libraries (A&SL) Section

The 2013 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Academic & Special Libraries (A&SL) Section of the LAI took place on Thursday 20 June 2013 at 6pm in the Royal Irish Academy, Dawson Street, Dublin.

Our guest speaker was John Cox, University Librarian, National University of Ireland, Galway. He spoke about the partnership between the National University of Ireland, Galway, and the Abbey Theatre to digitise the archive of the Abbey Theatre http://www.nuigalway.ie/abbey-digital-archive-partnership/

A new committee was elected for the 2013-2015 term. A huge thank you to all past and present committee members!

First Irish Library Camp!

The library camp will take place on 25th May 2013 at the Chocolate Factory, Dublin 1, and registration will open on 3rd May.

A&SL and HSLG Christmas/New Year Joint Networking Evening

The Joint Committees of the A&SL Section and the HSLG held a Joint Christmas/New Year Networking Evening in the Royal Irish Academy on
Thursday, 24th January 2013.

Our guest speaker is Eibhlin Roche, Archive Manager, Guinness Storehouse

The Joint Committees hosted a Drinks Reception from 6pm.

The aim of the Networking Evenings is to provide people with the opportunity to meet other librarians and information professional and to share news, views and experiences.
