Friday 9th, March 2018

"Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try Again. Fail again. Fail better."  Samuel Beckett

THEME: Fail Better: Lessons Lived, Lessons Learnt
Last year we heard about communities and the social role that librarians play in them. This year we attempt to break the stigma of failure within those communities and take a look at how failure needn’t be a dirty word. We hope to explore the instructive and generative capacity of failure with our delegates, and tease out how its acceptance within an organisation can prove beneficial.

The A&SL Committee invites submissions on the following topics or any others that may be relevant to the theme:

Learning from failure
Contingency planning
Iterating on attempts
Accepting imperfection
Recovering from missteps
Crisis management
Creativity as a by-product of failure
Supporting failure
Demystifying failure
Developing cultures of experimentation in libraries
Beta testing new services
Promoting adaptive and resilient approaches to library services

Please email aslsectionevents@gmail.com for a submission form.  The form includes further details and useful information with regard to making a submission. Note that, unlike in previous years, submissions will be taken as either case studies or poster presentations – no breakout or parallel sessions will be timetabled. Case studies will instead vary in their length according to what the speakers feel is appropriate – anywhere from 10-30 minutes.

Closing Date: November 16th, 2017
