Libraries: Empowering through Online Access
Library Ireland Week will take place from 28th November to 4th December 2016.
The theme of this year’s Library Ireland Week is ‘Libraries: empowering through online access’ and the focus is on the incredible range of online resources available in our libraries.
It is an opportunity for all of us as librarians and information professionals to remind everyone that there’s more to libraries than books, and to highlight the amazing array of online resources and services that we provide and which can be accessed anytime, anywhere and at the flick of fingertip.
Promotion of library services during the week will include the Library Ireland Week 2016 poster and a vibrant social media campaign which we would encourage you to engage with.
There are also hard copies A4 posters available. If you would like a copy of the poster sent to you, please contact email@example.com, and include in the body of the email your postal address and the number of posters you want.
We are very pleased to say that we have been successful again this year in our application to RTÉ Supporting the Arts, and Library Ireland Week 2016 will be promoted on RTÉ Radio 1, Lyric fm, on TV and on RTE’s social media.
SirsiDynix have also given permission for use of their Together We Connect video, which is available at:
The video links with some of our themes of online access and empowering communities.
However to make the week successful, we need YOU to organise and to promote events that fit the theme of libraries connecting people’s lives, and to take this opportunity to highlight the fabulous array of digital resources and services available in your library sector, including online courses, language learning, health information, business resources, e-magazines, digital images, and so on.
All you need to do is upload them to https://libraryassociation.ie/node/add
As with last year, we are also asking you to provide snippets of information expressed in one line of text to showcase the depth and variety of services offered by Irish libraries and information services, e.g. did you know that you can access over 260 e-magazines for free in your local library, including Cosmopolitan, Gardener’s World and Total Film?
All great content welcome, so please send it on to firstname.lastname@example.org.
We would also love to receive great photos from your library to share on Instagram.
Library Staff Exchange Scheme – For Library Ireland Week (LIW), we are keen to promote work shadowing/staff exchanges/job swap schemes between libraries. These schemes provide your team members with development opportunities to experience how different libraries operate and learn about different services and users.
For more information and guidelines, please see here.
We would really love to hear about schemes your library is participating in.
Please let us know about your experiences by contacting Kathryn Smith at email@example.com.
